Press Release:
Spring/Summer 2009

In 2004, Be & D designers Be Inthavong and Steve Dumain burst onto the luxury scene with a debut collection that rocked, or rather, studded the world. Over the past 5 years, Be & D has solidified its position alongside storied luxury houses by consistently presenting collections that speak to the individuality of a new generation of luxury clients.

In celebration of Be & D’s 5th anniversary, their iconic Garbo returns for Spring/Summer 2009, anchoring a capsule collection that is the epitome of punk modernity. The satchel remains in its signature sumptuous lambskin, this time awash with new spiked studs. Original buckles have been removed to streamline the effect, while the addition of whip stitched handles reinforce the intricate artisanal craftsmanship synonymous with Be & D. The grouping also includes the versatile soft-handle Garbo shoulder portfolio and matching waist belt, as well as the introduction of Garbo wallets.

The combination of equestrian-inspired whip stitch detailing and spiked studs continue in the perennial Greta, updated with signature Be & D hardware, and the Belleville ‘baby’ hobo – the perfect alternative for those who would rather ‘carry’ than ‘clutch’. Tassel charms/key chains in the form of 18th century horsewhips add a touch of fetish to the mix.

To balance the collection’s hardware-centric statement, Inthavong and Dumain have created two new shapes that add balance and softness without sacrificing attitude. The Clara portfolio is decidedly ladylike, but keeps from being too precious by turning the bow on its side. The Gibson tote and satchel are named for Charles Dana Gibson’s “Gibson’s Girl” who epitomized spirit, independence and femininity. Distinctive in its construction, the two top-zipper entries with separated compartments and a single gusset side pattern allows for organization while keeping the look sleek and easy – creating an organic square-like shape and unique proportion.

These are great bags! I've never seen anything quite like them before! I see that they're available at beandd.com, but are there any retail stores that carry them? I would love to see them in person!
